A Billingham steelworker’s moonlighting job has seen him wrap cars for some of motorsport’s biggest TV events.

Dave Todd is a loader for British Steel by day, swapping his overalls to work long hours on his growing vinyl wraps company EPF Graphics.

His passion has taken him to exotic locations such as Mount Fuji in Japan.

He’s wrapped the first ever ‘superbike’ sponsored by Gulf, in the oil firm’s iconic blue and orange colours dating back to 1966; the oil firm is famous for its Le Man cars, which raced in the legendary Isle of Man TT.

He’s also worked on Le Man prototype cars in the Asian Le Man series in Japan and an Audi R8 which won the Britcar championship.

His latest project is to wrap all 20 cars for the new Focus cup championship – and he’s even done an Audi for a music video by X Factor’s Honey G.

“I just thought ‘why not’,” says Dave, “I’m very passionate about what I do – maybe a little bit obsessed.

“You need to be passionate about your work.

“I just want to grow the business so I can do it every day.

There’s definitely a demand out there.

“It’s hard work, it might seem glamorous but there are some nights I don’t get any sleep when I’m working with the teams.

“If it’s being televised, you have to make sure the cars look their best when they’re on the track.”

He’s also partnered up with car detailers and valeters Shining Monkeys, based in Portrack, and Teesside Karting.

He wants to work on high-end vehicles next, including colour changes on Lamborghinis and Ferraris.

“Americans think of it as a bit of fashion for your car, there’s so much you can do with a bit of sticky back plastic,” he says.

“It’s early days, I’ve been doing it about 18 months but the idea is to build this up and go full time. I enjoy working for myself.

“There aren’t enough hours in the day but it flies by. It’s worth it.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in such a short time.”
