A trial date has been set for two men accused of the murder of 39-year-old Peter Gilling in Billingham.
Darren Willans and Derek Pallas appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday facing the murder charge.
The alleged victim, Mr Gilling, died at the weekend after he was found with serious injuries outside the Melsonby Court flats in Billingham in the early hours of Saturday.
Willans, 31, of Warren Court, Hartlepool and Pallas, 36, of Marsh House Avenue, Billingham, will next be back in court in December.
The pair appeared via a video link from HMP Durham.
Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, told them: “You will next be in this court by way of a link from prison on the 18th of December. Your trial will take place on the 18th of March.
“In the meantime you will be remanded in custody.”
No formal pleas have been entered.
Peter Gilling’s family said after his death: “We have been left utterly saddened and shocked by Peter’s death. He was a much loved son, brother and grandson and he will be hugely missed by all his family and by his many friends.
“We hope his death will not be in vain and that no other family has to endure the devastation and heartache we are currently going through – and will continue to go through.
“As a family we would now ask to be left to grieve in peace.”
