Thousands of pregnancy tests have been recalled amid concerns they could be giving the incorrect results.

Women who have bought the Clear & Simple Digital Pregnancy Tests are being urged to check and see if they are part of an affected batch of the kits.

And if they believe they have one of the potentially faulty products they are being urged to retest using a different kit.

Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech, which manufactures the product, says in the Manchester Evening News it is believed more than 58,000 of the affected kits have been distributed across the United Kingdom.

Dr Duncan McPherson, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) clinical director of medical devices, said: “It is important people check the lot number of any Clear & Simple Digital Pregnancy Tests they have purchased to see if they have a product from an affected lot.

“If you have any questions about using digital pregnancy tests, please speak to your healthcare professional.

“Patient safety is our highest priority. We strongly encourage anyone to report any issues with this product, or more generally with any medical device, to our Yellow Card Scheme .”

People are advised to check if they have any of the affected tests – with the lot number DM10220170710E and expiry date of January 2020.

The lot number can be found on the end of the box and is also printed on the sachet. Only this lot number is affected.

Anyone with an affected kit is urged to return it to their pharmacy or shop where it was purchased.
