Police have released the name of a woman who was found dead at her North Ormesby home.

Barbie Pigg, 49, who lived at Dorothy Street, was discovered on Monday when police visited the house after concerns were raised by a member of the public.

Now, police are appealing for anyone who saw her in and around the area before her death to get in touch.

Deputy senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Chris Motson said: “Barbie was very well known in her local area and I’d like to hear from anyone who saw her or spoke with her in the days and even weeks before she was sadly found deceased.”

Cleveland Police officers were called to the terraced street after a member of the public reported concerns for a person inside a house.

Two people – a 52-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman – were arrested in connection with her death, which is being treated as unexplained.

They have since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Speaking on Monday evening, police said: “We do not currently believe there is any wider risk to the public.”

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Ms Pigg’s death are ongoing.

“She was a really lovely woman,” one neighbour said earlier this week.

“I was homeless when I was a teenager and she helped me out a lot. It’s really sad what’s happened.”

DI Motson added: “I would urge anyone with information to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number, quoting Event 181019.”

“If you don’t want to speak to police you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously via their website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by phoning them on 0800 555 111.”
