A woman was taken to hospital after her car crashed into a lamp-post in Middlesbrough .

The accident happened near the junction of Acklam Road, Oxford Road and Whinney Banks Road just before 6.30pm on Friday.

The black car is thought to have hit a lamp-post, knocked down a barrier fence and landed on its side.

Police, fire brigade teams and paramedics were called to the scene.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Fire Brigade said two crews from Middlesbrough Fire Station attended and made the vehicle safe.

Paramedics helped the woman at the scene and she was then taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Acklam Road and Oxford Road at 6.28pm last night.

“We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to James Cook Hospital.”

The traffic lights on Whinney Banks Road were not working following the accident.
