Jobs are going at Marton Shops’ new micro bar, which is due to open at the end of October.

Bloc will open up in the former Lloyds TSB branch on Stokesley Road on Friday, October 26.

But in advance of the tapas and cocktail bar’s launch, kitchen staff vacancies are still available.

“We are looking for two food technicians in the local area to start when we open,” said Anthony Hynes, who is opening the bar with his brother Andrew.

“Send CVs to info@blocbarandbistro.com.”

Andrew added they will be responsible for putting together light tapas dishes such as meatballs and cheese plates.

Bloc was given the green light to serve cocktails until 11pm in August – one month after the plans were approved.

Speaking in July, Middlesbrough Council ’s Planning and Development Committee’s acting chair, Cllr Steve Bloundele, described the development as “a very, very positive application”.

“There is clearly a demand for more of this kind of business,” he added.

According to Bloc’s website, the business “has been built from humble beginnings; family and friends coming together to build something that Middlesbrough can be proud of.”

The description adds: “Being built from nothing, BLOC truly reflects the hard-working ethics and dedication that the tradesman of the North-east has become known for.

“They have hired the best bartenders, they have built everything by hand and they have bought the best ingredients around. All that is left is you.”
