A road has been closed near to Asda in South Bank after a two vehicle collision, leading to traffic problems.

Three police cars and two ambulances are at the scene between Tilbury Road and Normanby Road after the smash involving a car and a small HGV.

The crash has happened on the corner where the two roads meet, close to the Asda entrance and South Bank train station.

Tilbury Road is closed in both directions, with heavy traffic now said to be affecting the Cargo Fleet and South Bank area of Middlesbrough .

Both vehicles have been damaged and debris can be seen on the road.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We were called at 7.57am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision at Tilbury Road in Middlesbrough.

“We dispatched two double crewed ambulances and have transported one patient to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.”

Cleveland Police have been contacted for further details.
