A man was punched and knocked unconscious outside a Middlesbrough nightspot, leaving him with a fractured skull.

The incident happened at around 1am on Monday morning outside Flares nightclub on Albert Road in the town centre .

The 30-year-old man was taken to James Cook Hospital where he remains. His condition is said to be “stable.”

The suspect is described as a white male, of stocky build, with dark hair and a beard.

He was wearing a long-sleeved blue jumper, blue jeans and brown boots.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the assault to contact them.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Detective Constable Matthew Speak from Middlesbrough Operational Crime Team on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 189885.
